Abstract—The content and the regularities of the distribution of natural radionuclides in the upper geological
strata in Moscow are studied. The background activities of natural radionuclides are found for various rock
types. The geological horizons with an elevated content of uranium elements, which are a potential source of
radon, are revealed. These horizons are usually confined to the Oxfordian and Volgian Stages of the Early Juras-
sic System.
