Abstract—For the classification of cryogenic rock formations, it is proposed to use an integrated dual approach
that takes into consideration the genesis of rocks and the way of their freezing. Each of the distinguished for-
mations has its own specific cryolithological features and is located in definite regions with a peculiar geomor-
phological–tectonic structure and geological and neotectonic evolution during the Late Cenozoic. The diagnos-
tic signs of the distinguished formations are described. These formations are as follows: cryogenic oceanic,
cryogenic shelf, syncryogenic continental, glacial continental, and epicryogenic polygenic continental.
